FAQ

# Why should I use an interior designer ?

There are several reasons to consider using an interior designer for your projects:

  • To create a unified design vision for your project
  • To tap into the collective research and experience of professionals
  • To obtain access to resources only available ‘’to the trade’’
  • To save yourself the time and hassle managing a project yourself
# Why should I use Elements Design ?

With our combined backgrounds in design and project management, we believe we are unique among interior designers. We understand and can articulate your design vision while respecting budgets, schedules, and client communications. And, being busy working moms ourselves, we understand the importance of working efficiency and effectively on our clients’ behalf!

# What kind of work do you do ?

Our specialty is higher end residential projects, although we have completed commercial projects as well.

The scope of our services ranges from hourly advisory services to full-scale project design and management. We do not choose our clients and projects by size; rather, we look for interesting projects where we can add value through articulating a clear design vision and executing the project through to completion. Stylistically, we span the range from traditional to eclectic depending on client needs.

# How does your work differ from what an architect does ?

We primarily view a project space from the standpoint of its usability to the Occupants, not from the standpoint of the architectural shell. Many of the elements We consider are typically not included on an architect’s plans. These include detailed space planning, finish selections (paint colors, stone/tile), and the relationship of all the elements in the space to each other (furniture, lighting, fabrics, accessories).

That said, we can and do prepare architectural plans including interior and exterior Elevations for more significant renovations and additions. Depending on your Township’s regulations, you may have to have these drawings reviewed by a licensed architect to obtain a building permit, especially if structural changes are involved.

# How do you charge or your services ?

We charge an hourly rate for our design time (e.g. space planning, designing custom millwork). If items such as furniture and fabrics are purchased, we charge a discounted price from retail. All reimbursable expense (parking photocopies) are passed through directly without markup.

# Do you manage construction projects as well ?

We have relationships with many local builders and individual tradesmen. We will help you to define the vision for your project which will be implemented by the various professionals selected (e.g. drapery fabricator, painter, tile installer), although in many cases we act as a de facto “owner’s representative” in coordinating the activities of these groups.

# Can I see some of your work ?

Please see our Projects section for photos of our recent projects – we update this section regularly.
